What's the Big Idea with the Big Ideas?
Monday July 29, 2024 8:00am - 2:00pm PDT
TBA
What are the mathematical Big Ideas in each grade level? Last year, the state of California revised the Math Framework and provided additional information about how teachers should approach grade level planning, sequencing, and instruction around their grade levels Big Ideas and NOT specific standards.

Come and spend the day with us as we spend the morning understanding the intended instructional design of your grade level and the afternoon accessing resources that can help us make this shift in our classrooms.

This session is recommended for K-MS but is highly encouraged for anyone serving as a representative on our TK-8 Math Adoption Committee.

Mathematical Language Routines (MLRs): Why, What and How?
Tuesday February 11, 2025 8:00am - 2:00pm PST
In this session we will dig into the Mathematical Language Routines (MLRs) that are highlighted in the 2023 California Mathematics Framework. Teachers will engage in an overview of these 8 routines, which are essential tools for supporting student discourse and understanding.

The highlight of this session is the design lab, where teachers will engage in a collaborative process where they will design MLRs and determine how these routines can be effectively incorporated within an instruction block of task-based instruction.

SVMI (Grades 3-5 Focus)
Thursday February 20, 2025 2:30pm - 4:00pm PST
Have you given an SVMI task but are unsure of the next steps? In this session, we will start with a brief review of what SVMI is and the scoring protocol. Our main focus, however, will be on exploring tools for re-engagement and how these tools can be used to drive productive PLC discussions and inform your next steps in classroom instruction. We will examine the distinction between reteaching and re-engaging students, as well as identify where an SVMI task can be effectively placed within your unit plan. While this session was scheduled to fit the dismissal time of middle school teachers, all grade levels are invited to attend.
